Koh Phi Phi is the jewel in Krabi’s crown – made up of two islands; Phi PhiLeh and Phi Phi Don. These are Thailand’s picture perfect ‘postcard’ islands. Sweeping beaches carved between the craggy cliffs glisten in the sun. Lush tropical palms sway above wooden restaurants serving freshly caught seafood. By day it provides a pace of life that tells no time; by night there are parties going till sunrise.
Koh Phi Phi or Phi Phi islands are located in the middle of the Andaman Sea, 42 km away from Amphoe Mueang. It is a part of NopharatThara Beach – Phi Phi Islands National Park which contains 2 big islands – Koh Phi Phi Don and Koh Phi Phi Le, and 4 smaller islands nearby – Koh Yung, Koh Mai Phai, Koh PidaNok and Koh PidaNai.
Koh Phi Phi Don is the center of Phi Phi Islands where there is the pier at Aow Ton Sai. There are also restaurants, shops, and other facilities provided. Travellers can walk from Aow Ton Sai to the viewpoint at the peak of the mountain where they can see the stunning flanks of a narrow isthmus of Aow Ton Sai and Aow Lo Dalam. Around the island is one of the world’s popular dive sites and snorkeling sites.
Koh Yao consists of two main islands, Ko Yao Noi and Ko Yao Yai, and several surrounding islets. Most beaches of Koh Yao Noi are located on the west side of the island. If you come from Manoh pier, passing the District Administrative Office for around 7 km, you will find Pa Sai Beach, which is a 400-meter-long beach. From here you can watch the scenery of Koh Pak Bia, Koh Hong and sunrise very well.
Here at Koh Yao Noi, tourists could experience the way of lives of Koh Yao Noi islanders who are mainly rice farmers or fishermen.
The South of Thailand is the centre of Thai fisheries where you can fetch some fresh fish or shrimps for dinner. The region also aims to encourage the idea of a healthy road where local people come to jog and play sports on local streets.
Moreover, from Koh Yao Noi, you can conveniently travel to other surrounding islands. Most tourists, after thoroughly explored the island, will continue to Koh Lao Bi Le or Koh Hong, which is the location of a ranger unit of Than Bokkoranee National Park. For those who want to see wonderful sandy beaches and coral reefs, do not miss visiting Koh Lao Hundu and Koh Pak Bia.
